Default Arrow setup for NM Elk

I'll be headed to New Mexico for an archery elk hunt and I was wondering what arrow setup people favor. I've archery elk hunted once before in Idaho and they had a minimum arrow weight of 400 grains. I currently shoot 26.5"Easton ACC 360's with feathers andSlick Trick 100 grain heads for deer and that combo weighs approximately 375 grains. What do you all recommend? Also, does anyone know if NM has a minimum arrow weight? I looked on their website and couldn't find anything regarding minimum arrow weights. Thanks for the input.

I don't know if they have a minimum, but I consider 400 a good starting point. My set up is Gold tips 7595 with magnus stingers 125 grain heads (429 grains). I feel it is very important to have a cut on contact head for an animal as big as an elk. Research has proven to my satisfaction that cut on contact heads out penetrate others. You give up a little in arrow drop, but I want that extra weight when elk hunting.

I am also using the pro hunter 7595 at 26.5 inches. With my 125 grain Muzzy broadhead they weigh 438 grains. And I am also scheduled to go on an Elk hunt in New Mexico. I have a question about cut on contact. My outfitter recomended the COC type broadheads also. If you sharpen the tricor tip on the muzzydoes that not make it a cut on contact broadhead. I keep mine sharp.

What you want to be sure of is enoughK & E, that equals the right arrow weight with enough speed (for flat trajectory).

I would recommend your favorite fix bladed broadhead. If they shoot great you are set. I shoot a 29'' 350 arrow with a 3 blade muzzy for my elk setup. My bow is 70#.

I hunt elk in Colorado with 70# bow shooting 275 fps and 377 total grains arrow weight (Easton A/C/C and Wasp 85 grain Hammer SST).That is about 63 ft*lbs ofkinetic energy. It has been a deadly set up so far with clean pass throughs every time. My dad shoots the exact same set up and the only non-pass throughs were due to the opposite shoulder.

I hope you get a monster!
