Default Moose/Sheep in Colorado

I'm looking to expand my states where I put in for Moose & Sheep. I'm confused as I read I can get 3 preference points max, then it goes "weighted". I can't see anything that explains what weighted means or how they do it, etc. Anyone clarify that is used to this system?

It takes 4 years of applying to get 3 preference points.1st year-0 2nd year-1 3rd year-2 4 th year-3. This is the pool from which the tags are drawn. When you apply you get a 9 digit number---select by the computer at random. The one with the lowest number gets the tag. You are given a weighted point for each year (after you have 3 points & didn't draw)----A wieghted point then takes your computer number & divides it. 1 weighted point divides your number by 2. 2 weighted points divides it by 3.

In therory a guy could get a real low number the 1st time he's in the 3 point pool. ie say he gets the number 000-010-005. The guys who has 3 points plus 3 weighted points draws the number 999-505-555. take that number & divide by 4---his number is 249-87-638. Lower number gets the tag. Hunter #1 with only 3 points. Hunter 2 gets his money back & now has 4 weighted points.

Hope I explained it well enough----Just to confuse it a little more the computer gives you number----135-890-010 Then it actually reverses the number your REAL number is 010- 098-531 I think it does this to elimate any type of hanky panky done by the data entry person.

Clear as mud? CB

Wow- at least they didn't make it complicated! So you can draw (in theory) the first time you put in? or do you have to be in the weighted pool?

Thanks for the info- very good info indeed!!

Not your 1st year you apply. You will have 0 points. It takes 3 points to get into the pool where the tags are drawn from. That will be your 4 th year.

In theory you could get drawn the 1st time you apply with 3 points & 0 weighted points.

They started this weighted point stuff 5 years. Guys have been applying for years & years---never drawing a tag. It took me 13 yeras under the old system to get a Mtn Goat tag. For moose I have 3 points & 5 weighted points. I've been applying for that tag ever since they started.

The only way to draw is to apply---CB

I know two good places for sheep and goats. I will start applying this year also, so when I am an old man and cant hike any moreAND I'll have a tagI can't use.

Good luck to you on your adventure.

Gee Wiz Guys,

I know America is a great country but I sure am starting to appreciate the fact that I can buy a stone sheep or bighorn tag at the local grocery store for 50 bucks. If I take a full curl ram less than 9 years old I just have to waite a few years before buying another tag. If I kill a 9 year old ram I can hunt another the next year.
My yard is full of moose and tags are 20 bucks, no draw.
Elk bull tags, rifle, 10 week season, 20 bucks at the grocery store.

countin my lucky stars
