Default handgunning in CO?

My brother-in-law and I are planning a cow elk hunt for 2006. Is it legal for him to use his 500 Smith & Wesson for elk in CO? He is taking his 338 mag to use if his only shot is a long one, but would like to use his 500 if the right shot comes along. Thanks, Jim

Yes he can hunt with the 500 S&W.

Colorado handgun regulations......
*barrel length must be 4" or longer
*.24 caliber or larger expanding bullet
*no shoulder stocks or attachments
*cartridge must develop a minimum energy of 550 foot pounds at 50 yards as rated by the manufacturer.

The 500 S&W definetly qualifies under Colorado laws.

also remember to carry it so that it can't be concidered concealed and if you will be on a 4 wheeler or snowmobile other rules apply
