Default 375-Remington Ultra Mag report.

Because rifle hunting has become rather ho-hum over the past few years. I bought myself a new rifle chambered in 375-Remington Ultra Mag. I have killed two animals with this rifle. One cow elk & one whitetail doe, zero tracking has been required. I have been handloading 260-grain Nosler Accubond bullets.

I am gettingthe itch to travel to Africa. I think the 375-R.U.M. is to blame for this? If I travel to Africa my 375 will bealongfor the ride.

Deer hunting has not been the samesincethe 375-R.U.M. came along.

Sounds fun.....I think. How is the recoil? I was looking at getting the 338RUM. And I'm sure(according to the pea shooter click) that the extra whack factor had nothing to do w/ the lack of tracking.

NVMIKE, The recoil is stout to say the least. You just don't shoot this rifle without a good hold on it with both hands.
I have also shot the 338-Reming Ultra Mag. The 338-R.U.M. has a stout kick to it also.
I.M.H.O.Since you are looking at the 338-R.U.M. already. Give the 375-R.U.M. a second look.
Hunting with the 375-R.U.M. in-hand is fun.

The 338 and 375 ultras are wwwwwiccked on both ends. I think the 338 kicks harder than the 375.

I am interested to hear what that 260 grain bullet did to the deer? I would imagine it punched clean through her? What was the damage like INSIDE? How about the elk? I thought about this in the thread I posted, but then saw your report and figured I would ask there.

Charlie Brown, The 260-grain Nosler Accubond did punch clean through the elk & deer. The bullets were not recovered. Looking at the exit holes it appers that both bullets expanded. The meat damagewas no more than my 300-win mag would have done.
The added knock down energy helped put both animals down on the spot. The extra recoil has not been a factor in the field. The extra recoil at the bench is not fun. I have modified my shooting position at the bench to accomadate theextra recoil.
ELKampMaster, gave merock solid information on "how to" handle the recoil. My shooting style has changed for the better. I even shoot my 22-lr the same way I shoot my 375. I am shooting all of my rifles better today than I did last year. Thanks ELKampMaster.

Good Luck to all,

Wolf Killer
