Default What 270 ammo for Elk?

Any opinions and/or experiences with 270 ammo for elk? I have a Remington 700 that I will be using for the first time during elk season. For deer season I used Federal Power-Shok 130 grain "Speer Grand Slam" rounds. My rifle was very accurate with this round, but I didn't get my deer this year. I was thinking of trying theFederal Premium Vital-Shok Nosler Partition in 150 grain for elk.Would this round be adequate for my hunt? I have until friday to buy ammo and re-zero my rifle. What other brands of ammo would you suggest? Youropinions and suggestions would be appreciated.

I killed 12 of my 13 elk with a 150 grain nosler partition, killed one with a 140 grain fail safe and this bullet was the only one that exited the animal. The 150 partition is hard to beat out of your .270.
Good Luck!!

i shoot a .270 myself and i love it for elk. your failsafe is what i would go with, but the 150 is what i shot. it leaves a good hole and makes tracking much easier. the most important thing is your shot placement, either way if the bullet goes where it needs to you will be eating elk steaks this winter.

I would go with the Triple Shock X-bullet or the Failsafe.

I would use a CT fail safe or a Speer grand slam bullet.

PSSST....[:-]people around here think the 270 is a pee shooter. You might open a can of worms with this one.[8D]

140g sierra boattail gamekings over H4831sc, do the trick for me.

You're not kidding ShatoDavis. I read 8 pages on another forum how some people think the .270 is a marginal performer for elk.[&:]

I personally have used 140 ballistic tips, 140 failsafes, 140 TBBC, 150 partitions and 150 corelokts. They all worked just like they were suppose to and cleanly killed the elk.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I now feel confident with my ammo selection. Can't wait for opening day Saturday. Don't go back to work until the 9th.
