About 2 months or so ago, I asked the forum to suggest some good elk bullets. I took your advice and here is what I found.
The Federal Premium 180 grain Nosler partitions grouped well in my custom Mauser model 1909 agentine with wood stock and 22" barrel. It is a 7 3/4 lb rifle. I got one group of about an inch which is the best I have gotten with any hunting load. Plenty accurate to the extent of my shootable range (about 250 yds).
But the same brand and weight did not so well in my Savage 110 with acutrigger. Nor did the Winchester supreme accubond. Acually, the standard Corelokt 180 grains surpassed these loads in accuracy.
Has anyone tried the Black hills ammo?

There are plenty of good bullets out there. I would recommend any of these:
Winchester Failsafe
Federal Barnes X
Remington Scirocco
Federal Trophy Bonded
Remington Swift A Frame
Any of those will do the job.

This a 30/06 correct? If so the plain jane 180 grain "Core-lokt" has taken a ton of elk over the years. 16 & counting for me. Still use it---no reason to change. CB
Today you'd be hard pressed NOT to find a good bullet. Every manufacturer of bullets have significantly improved their product to the point where bullet failure (ie. failure to expand or hold together upon impact) is an unlikely scenario. Far more important is how a particular bullet shoots from your rifle. We can spend weeks and months debating this but remember only ONE thing kills elk.
