Jason, I didn't see a compass or GPS on your list. Get a good one.

Camo Clothes. Warm and cold weather variety. I may be splitting hairs but I once went hunting and got all the way to camp before I realized I had forgot my Woolies.

Jason, seems like you got it all together except the T. V. Guide. I need to rent you for a week or so.

Default RE: Hunting Checklist!

Idaho hunter 58, I am hunting a new area this year close to my home here in south east Idaho. Its only about a hour drive to where my base camp (truck and trailer)will be. My spike camp will beanywhere from 4to 8 miles in depending on where the majority ofelk are found. Right now I am finding elk very close to where we will park the truck and trailer. I might as well hunt them close in the beginning for the first 3 days and then go deep later on. I am huntingtuesday tofriday morning and then coming home for a friends wedding. After that I plan on evening and day hunts for the next 2 weeks until Sept 17 then I'll be gone for a solid week during the rut!

Greg, to be honest I don't own either a compass or GPS right now. I do know how to usethem and have borrowed both friends andfamily GPS's to practice with. I have owned a compass in the past and agree I do need at least one with me. So I will go look and compare prices, maybe if the price is right I'll buy a GPS too, but I do want a good one and am willing to wait until I have the moneyfor one that will suite me.Do you have arecommendation for one that is not too expensive?

Jason, I have an eTrex by Garmin. It was the cheapest one I could get at $100.00. No bells and whistles, but it works and is fairly simple to use. I carry a compass also, started using one when I was 10. I am better with the compass, but am learning to use the GPS. And I have to admit, I am not using as much trail marker tape as I used to, but I still carry too much of that to. But it sounds like you are ready to go, I start tomorrow morning. Been a very ruff summer, so I have very little scouting done. We will see if I can still fly by the seat of my pants. Good luck Jason, kill a whopper!
