RE: CARIBOU HUNT OUTFITTER ??????
Hi,
I just got back from a weeklong trip up north with Jack Hume Adventures. Based on my experience, I would HIGHLY recommend going with him. He's got 20+ camps and only books 6 at a time. He has at least 2 scouts going around to the vacant camps to see if Caribou are passing through. We had 6 hunters in our group (2 of which were Bow Hunters). Things were a little tough for us as the migration wasn't coming through and the Caribou were all going north in small numbers. We managed to tag out with the exception of one of the bow hunters who could have easily tagged out if he had chosen to use a rifle.
In the airport in Shefferville, we heard some absolute nightmares where people were shut out. In one case, the outfitter brought the hunters into Labrador just to find absolutely nothing. Late in the week, he called JHA to see if he could send them into one of their vacant camps which was acceptable. After moving there and buying a Quebec hunting license into addition to the Labrador license, there were able to tag 4 caribou in one day out of six hunters. Not very happy campers.
I am sure that there are very good outfitters up north in addition to JHA. I advise you not to try to save too much money and do your due dilligence before you book. It will be well worth the effort.
Cheers
