The wife & I just came home from a 8-day alaska fishing trip. I fished two days forking salmon. The only king salmon I caught was 48-pounds.
We fished4-hours for Halibut. We caught several Halibut, the largest one was 42-pounds. The halibut fishing trip was cut short, my sister-in-lawbecame sea sick. The four or us didlimited out before weheaded back to shore. The smallest halibut wekeptwas 26-pounds. IF we wouldhave had more time? We might have caught some larger halibut to keep? The 8-halibut that we kept averaged 30-pounds.The captain told us the halibut in that area averaged 35 to 40-pounds
I also caughtsockeye salmon off of our dock on the Kenai river.
We did see Moose, Dall Sheep, Mountain Goat, Black Bear & Brown Bears on our trip.
Istarted planning my 2006 trip beforethis trip was over. I am looking for a outfitter that can take me king salmon fishing & halibut fishing. I want two-days of halibut fishing &4-days of King Salmon fishing if needed.
Sounds Like a great trip, you caught some fish and expeienced a whole new world.
This is the Charter I went with he was reasonable and he did small parties, not like some of the larger ones.

Wolf,
Glad to hear you had a great trip! 4 days for kings sounds about right. That is how long I typically go for. And about that halibut, the 30-45 lbs range is the best eating range in my opinion. Sounds like you had fun! (sitting in the desert full of jealousy at the moment...)

I assume your looking for big halibut, IMHO you should go out of Homer. Yes, everyone takes big halibut all along Cook Inlet from time to time, but i still think chartering out of Homer is your best bet.
As for big kings, it's timeing your trip to go on the right day much more than who you go out with! Also, some years are a lot better than others for bigger fish. (bigger returns of fish)
We went halibut fishing out of ninilchik. If I could do it again? (I will next year.) I would go out of Homer. The only down side to Ninilchik is launching off of the beach.
I asked my haybag/wife to worka few shifts at Good Time Charlies, to help offset the cost of the trip.[8D] She did not think it was as good of an idea as I did.
Uhmmmmmm.......................................... . So where are the pics.
You can't just come on here and tell us about a trip to Alaska and not post any pics. What's wrong with you man????????????????
Sounds awesome thoough.
