Default Cold weather hunting boots

What boots do you like down to 0 degrees? My application will be Elk hunting at about 11,000' in Colorado mid-October. I have backpacking boots I have used for years that are good for backpacking, but I realize my feet get cold in these when I'm sitting still at a mere 20 degrees above zero (thin polypropolene liner with heavy wool socks over), thus they probably won't cut it if it gets cold and I'm still for some time.

Danner elk hunters(the tall ones),if it is colder than that Scheene's Pac Boots,or White's Pac boots.

Meindl boots bar none. There are severla models to choose from and you can get as much or as little insulation as you want. I love meindl's and excluding some custom made Italian hikers, there is no finer "factory" boot that I know of.

That's exactly what I was going to say. The Danners are great as long as it doesn't get much more below 0. Also make sure to spend good money to buy good socks. They're well worth it.

Alsatian,

I have a pair of Danner hunting boots that have 600 gms of Thinsulate. I tried the Arctic-shield boot insulators, however, they were very noisy in the cold weather while in the stand. This year I am going to try the Cabela's Legacy series wool/Gore tex gaiters over the boots. The socks that I use are the Coolmax liner sock, then a wool sock. Hope this helps.

I have guided with a few guys who also guide in the NWT/Yukon for sheep, moose and mountain caribou every year. They all swear by Meindl's and one also brings a pair of schnee's(sp?) for late season hunts. They have all tried other brands but the only ones to stand up to a full season of use were meindl's. I plan on picking up a pair this summer.

I use some Rockys with 600 grams of thinsulate and plain white socks....always hunt third season. Gonna try some Cabela's this year as those Rockys have lasted about 12 years.

Last season I bought a pair of Irish Setter 1600 gr thinsulate boots. The main reason I went with these is because they were the lightest warm weather boot I found. And yes, they are toasty, light and VERY comfortable. The only bad part about buying them was breaking them in last July/August for late season MT elk hunt!! LOL Seriously though, I would highly recommend these boots. NOt sure the "name" of the boot, but I think it is their only 1600 gr boot...again, VERY light for a boot of this construction.

You cant go wrong with a good pair of Seroles or Kaughmans both are rubber bottoms with leather uppers felt liners drying out is as simple as replacing liners
