Default New legislation on non-resident quotas

Is the new legislation saying that states have the rights to set non-resident quotas going to mean anything? Is it not ultimately up to the courts regardless? I hope that is does stand. Nobody likes to have longer odds at out of state tags, but I do believe above all else a resident hunter should be able to hunt his own state at an affordable price. I know that if I strike out on all my tag apps, I will still be hunting whitetails in MI in the fall for $30. Also, just because the odds are long in one state, if you apply in enough states and accumulate enough points, odds are you can draw one quality tag somewhere. The higher costs are a put off at first glance, but if I am going out west, it is pretty cheap to buy an elk tag for $500 or an antelope tag at $250 and camp for free on public land and enjoy a week out west.
Plus if you really think it unfair, you can always move to the state and become a resident. Just my 2 cents.

Default RE: New legislation on non-resident quotas

Your thoughts and sentiments mirror the majority. With the passage of the Reid Bill, Wyoming will conduct "business as usual". Nonresidents will pay more than residents, and malcontents will have to tolerate that until some one musters up another million to file another suit with another lame scheme! According to Mike Enzi, support of the Ried bill ran almost 15 to 1 in all of the correspondence they recieved.

Default RE: New legislation on non-resident quotas

In Arizona we still have to go through the formal court process to overturn the Montoya decision based upon the new legislation. It is a formality so you will see the state go back to some form of NR cap but I am hoping that the NR fees go up slowly and don't hit the new 10 year cap right away.
