Default Hog question?

Here is a thought that I have been pondering with a few others and its still floating around in the back of our heads.

If we have enough land and put a fence around it and put some hogs in it for our personal hunting. Considering it to be something like a field slaughter not actuall hunting how much land would we need and how high is the fence and how many hogs per acre could we hold and what kind of hogs and whare could they be bought?

This is just a wild idea and I was wondering if anyone here has done this or does this?

Thanks ahead of time.

andy_o, considering how fast they multiply, you would run out of property
real soon. I really don't like the idea of fencing them in for your purpose.
It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

I don't know about hogs, we raised them in pens.

We did raise rabbits in a 30'x30' totally enclosed chicken wire pen. We dug a 3' pit within the whole pen, and laid metal lath through out the pit, and 2' above the pit to keep the rabbits in and varmints out. We filled the pit with dirt, and the rabbits lived under ground. When ever we felt like eating a rabbit we helped ourselves. Good luck.

Hey rebal that is kind of what we are thinking of doing it is just a fun way to get meat. We have some really wooded areas around here and I was thinking about some whare around 25 acres or so.

It is more along the lines of just a little more fun than leaving them penned up in the back yard than slaughtering them come winter. You said that it was like shooting fish in a bucket but shooting fish in a bucket is more fun than going to the supermarket.

andy-o just remember hogs will absolutely destroy the property you put them on. This is why most states want them eradicated. FL has a huge problem with them! But they are fun to hunt and they tast good if processed correctly!
