I'll bite on this one for a sec. The best truck would be one with plenty of room (ext. cab/crew cab etc.)for hunting. If I wanted a truck to get me out of a sticky situation. It would probably be a 76-79 Ford F150 4x4. I drive a Duramax Crew and love the truck, but I am sold that my old Ford will go all the places the new trucks can't. I've had my old Fords (owned many ford's,chevy's) out with newer trucks in the mud, rocks, hills, creeks and it is truly a tank for those situations. Ive also owned Toyotas, Datsuns......not enough power for those sticky situations. ( Excluding newer Tundras and such) If someone wanted a vehicle that was a good 4x4, that needed good mileage for traveling and such, the Honda Passport is a very good vehicle for that. I've tested 4x4 vehicles for many years for an automotive transfer case manufacturer up until 2006. I've put trucks, SUV's through the roughest tests. For comfort and Ride the Silverado up until 2006 was king of the road in a truck. I like the Hummers, but they weak front end parts. The Fords built after 2000 had a bad ratcheting in the front ends, it was very nasty sound. Dodges and weak rearends and transmissions, is some cases they are still fighting that to this day. One SUV that really sticks out was the 2006 Ford Explorer 4x4 with the 4.6l V8. This truck was a very good ride, quiet, lots of power. I averaged over 20mpg with the explorer while on tests, and seen up to 23mpg very often. Enough RANT......Have fun in your trucks!
The "best" one for the woods is the one that's paid off.
Currently run a beater ZJ with 3.5" of lift and MTRs. Does OK, gets better gas mileage since I swapped out the 249 for a 242 T case (can go part time 4wd now).
Room for a hunting bud, or two. If hunting alone I can crash overnight in it.
Had a few XJ and CJ's. The latter great for tight trails and maneuverability, but I'm older and smarter now (more wimpy). My spine likes better seats, longer wheelbase and overall a heater that freakin' works
Yamaha grizzly 4x4 atv. Just got a 600, things is a grizzly going through it all. Even has Kendal Bear Claw tires on it. Put it towork the other day going through a foot and a half of mud hauling out oak log after oak log. Didn't even know it was working.
I also have a GMC 4x4 but I wouldn't take that where thing thing goes.
The best truck for woods loading is Toyota Tundra because it is a full-sized pickup truck which carries a lot from the earlier models. And this truck is suitable for hunting purpose also because it has open area in its carriage that can be used for hunting.

I love the Isuzu Rodeos. Small enough to get into tight areas but big enough to pack my camp and animals out. Even camped in the back of it quite a few times in the high country. Great gas mileage as well.
