Do the jaws snap shut when you let off the trigger or do you have to push the trigger to latch them?

Cage, you have to push the trigger to close the jaws... I keep the trigger between my index and middle finger to do this and it's super-easy to do then...

I'm interested. Does it have a rod that connects to the wrist strap like the one pictured? Or is it one of those free hanging ones on a string?
