RE: 30.06 for deer
The 30-06 is a great round. No matter what round you choose, you need to be able to place the bullet in the vitals of the animal. I have a 742 Woodmaster that was my dads gun. I do not hunt with it anymore but I keep it zeroed just in case I need a backup. This 742 has never jammed and has taken a bunch of deer. I have been told that lack of cleaning or improper cleaning is the major cause of jamming in these guns. I would not hesitate to take it on a hunt but I do prefer a bolt action.
