The 300 WSM is quite a bit more popular than the 300 SAUM from Remington. The 300 WSM also has a slight edge ballistically but both fall behind the 300 Win Mag. Personally a gun the size of a Rem model 7 is just begging for the 260 Rem. I would look at the Ruger Compact as well.
