Here is a link I found last night that you might want to check out. It talks about creep, and overtravel, neither which I ever had, before or after, and of course the trigger pull. There is also a drawing you can click on.

Here is a post from someone else on a different website, you might want to give it a try first. I didnt fool with the spring because my dad told me not to. But it sounds like lessening the tension on it might work too.
Here is what this poster wrote.
I have a MKII 300 Win Mag with a stiff trigger. Do not have an acctual calibrated weight scale. I just used a fish scale i have and my pull was unofficialy 5.5 lbs from the factory. All i did was take out the spring and replace it with a shortened spring out of a ball point pen, resulting in around 2.5 lbs pull weight. Easy(cheap) solution to try and see how it feels.

Cheap and easy, definitely worth trying before you start polishing.
