bugs such as moths feed on the base of the hair (or fur) which has nothing to do with the tanning process. back in the day of arsenic that did not always happen because the chemical was in the hair also. it was also very bad for anyone touching it. over the years some could wear off and damage is possible. for the "fly by night " taxidermists who do not tan their skins it will happen quicker. if you get bugs in your mounts it is not because you have a dirty house or your taxidermist is incompetent. it can happen to anyone. more so if your trophy room is located in a high traffic area with direct access to the outside. the more proactive you are with your trophies ( cleaning and grooming), the less chance you will have of getting bugs.
