Well i' m not qualified to offer an opinion since I am not a District Attorney but why don' t you just hold a bit higher with that flat shooting 30-30 of yours? Since it is already defying the laws of physics by being only 3 inches low at 200 yards you should have no problems at 250 right? In all seriousness though under 250 yards there isn' t much difference between the 270, 7mm-08 and 308. Take your pick. Since it seems to me you don' t reload you would probably be better off with a 270 Win or 308 Win. The 7mm-08 Rem is limited to 120 and 140 grain loads off the shelf and while adaquate, it is best handloaded.
