Hey all... Checking in... Been out a few times but with a new job to train for and interviews for prospective jobs it has put a limit on my time in the field. The few times I have been out have been pretty productive in that the birds are gobbling back to me and approaching but hanging up due to hens.
I will be out next week a few times and it will be the 3rd week of the season and the birds should be free frmo the hens!

Season ended with no bird. Sorry I couldn't add to the tally. It wasn't for lack of trying!

Default Finally scored after a tough season..

Well it has been a tough year, but it finally came together today. Shot a 3 year old.

18 pounds
9.5" beard
1 1/8" spurs

I almost got screwed again though. He came from 100+ yards out. When he was at 40 yards just strutting and gobbling, but I couldn’t get a shot between all the trees when all of a sudden a deer comes out of no where and runs right between me and the bird and then stops 20 yards from me. She just stared and started stomping but the bird stayed right in full strut and it never bothered him. Finally he walked about 5 feet and I had a small window to let one ride and he went in a pile. Early in the week I had a deer blow and stomp and run and spook a bird I had coming in..

Guys it was a pleasure hunting with you all this spring. We came up short this spring but we gave it a heck of a try.
Good luck to all in your fall hunting this year. Be safe and hunt hard.
Thanks, Kenny

ksfowler, If you can squeeze somebody in down there in kansas i would sure like to hunt some rio's again.
