I might not take a box call into the woods, this year.
The only reason I choose to carry a Box call is I can really Hammer on it, it's a good locater call if my crow call or owl call isn't working.

I usually stick with the mouth calls and maybe a slate. The turkeys get call shy really fast around here, and not everyone is skilled with a mouth call so its the least used call that the turkeys are hearing.

It's time for me to start cleaning out my bag from the deer/archery season and repacking it with turkey stuff. I don't use a vest, because I'm usually packing 3 decoys with me to make a spread and sit/wait if we run out of room to run and gun, or if I just want to take it easy and nap. I just find it easier to use my daypack with these decoys, and have an add on pocket for the belt strap that I can fit my calls into.

Anyhow, I've usually got an owl hooter and crow call around my neck. I've got 2 pot calls in my pocket on the belt. I've got a gobbler tube as well that I still carry but is a real PITA sometimes as it will occasionally squeak when I walk.I carry 2 strikers (I think I lost one of them last year, may have to pick another up), and then carry 4-5 mouth calls including a backup of each of my mouth calls just in case.

Out of the mouth calls I've got, I use them all.............butall but 1 of the birds I've killed or called in for others in the last 5 years have been with the same model of mouth call. I'll usually use this as my go-to call, and add in a pot call at the same time to sound like more than one bird if I'm working something. If I'm calling for others I'll use the pot call more than I will when I'm on my own, just because I don't have a bow/gun to worry about using with my hands.

x2. It can really cut through the wind as well. My current box is too high pitched for my likings, but I could probably hear it from TN.

I will be getting a new one this spring, just need to regain some money mowing first.[&:]

I have three to 5 diaphragms, a slate and striker, a box call, and a gobbler tube. The turkeys really like an A-frame around here, but the box call is priceless when trying to locate a group of birds.
