Here is the first buck we caught on camera. This one is off a stealth cam. We added two moutries for a total of four. Hoping we can catch a pic of the big one this week. Opener is sept 17 but won't be able to hunt till the 19th. Any guesses as to the age of this one. A few people thought he was 31/2 or 41/2 but I am not so sure. I think he may be as young as two and a half.............dabow
Going to give it another shot this weekend. Thank the Lord i have a deisel truck, so I feel confident in fuel availability. I honestly am being a bit ambivalent about going, with all the suffering taking place in La.I hope that things can change quickly for those folks!
going to try and work up a little ground next week to put in some oats. Wonder how much of a plot I could do in a couple of days with just a mower and rottotiller.
I just got back from scouting the 12 acre lot I recently gained permission to hunt. On the edge of the property right at the National Forest marker there is a beautiful funnel. On one side is a steep hillside going downtotally covered with thick laurels. On the other side is a steep 50 yard highwall running to a long ridge. In between is a 40 yard stretch which has a series of 4 or 5 "benches" that kinda make a stair-step effect with several trails running all the way down. Eventually they run right in to the thicket. Each bench is totally COVERED in old rubs from last year and the years before!! Not to mention the area has several black oaks already dropping acorns. A doe came out ofthe funnel and almost walked right over my hunting partner and I. Minutes later her fawn came in from another direction and circled us, then walked right past. That was exciting. I hope to keep a close eye on this spot!
