The jig is up . . . she knew something wasn't right but couldn't be sure what it was. The stomping and snorting serves two purposes; The first is to induce some movement but the second is just as important, she has secreted an alert musk from the gland between her hoves warning other animals in the area . . . especially the buck that hadn't come out of the brush yet.
